Sugar mill reaches out to district hospital
Sugar mill spreads a little sweetness to revamp hospital.
LENDING a much-needed helping hand, Tongaat Hulett volunteers got down to the business of scraping and painting one of Ngwelezana Hospital’s wards.
The hospital, which has 1 200 staff members who provide a wide range of services to some 7 700 patients per month, is also a referral institution for 22 peripheral hospitals covering north-eastern KZN up to the Mozambique border.
The made over ward is used as an eye clinic, which caters to more than a thousand patients on a monthly basis.
‘The little time that was invested in painting a section of the hospital has brought cheer to the recipients and a noticeable difference to their surroundings,’ said Tongaat Hulett Socio-economic Development Manager, Nkonzo Mhlongo.
Appreciative of the investment made, Ngwelezana Hospital CEO, Dr Thandeka Khanyile said the initiative has opened the door for future partnerships with the company.
