Sulphur spill closes Alton main road
The Fire and Rescue Department has been cleaning the road since the truck accident this morning.
A HEAP of sulphur coated a section of Alumuna Alley near the John Ross Parkway after a cargo truck lost its load at 9.15am this morning.
The high traffic area has been closed since. It is still unclear what time the road will be reopened.
The uMhlathuze Fire and Rescue, Traffic Department and the transport company Afcargo’s management tended to the clean-up of the spill.
Fire and Rescue workers are busy cleaning the road and a full investigation is underway.
According to Afcargo Director Theuns White, it is possible a chain to the truck’s bin snapped causing the container to tumble off the trailer, however, he emphasised the exact cause will only be confirmed after thoroughly probing the incident.
No injuries were reported.
