Protesters close road to RBM

The road to RBM is still closed after protesters burned tyres and blocked the road this morning.

HUNDREDS of Mzingazi community members are blocking the road to Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) protesting for more youth employment opportunities and demanding compensation from the mine for the use of local land.

According to reports from witnesses on scene, the marchers burnt around 450 tyres since 5.30am this morning and forcibly pulled off four busses, refusing to let passengers to go to work.

The busses were used to barricade the road.

The KwaMbonambi SAPS, Public Order Policing Unit and RBM Security are currently managing the situation.
