Speed dating with science

YOUNG and old joined in the fun at the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre for the annual ‘Speed Dating for the Brain’ game.
As one of the Capitec Foundation’s National Science Week initiatives, the fast-paced educational game, now in its second year, saw locals enjoy a fun twist to science.
In an effort to test maths, science and financial literacy skills, the game is based on the well known speed dating concept in which a bell marks the time and a person moves from table to table interacting with someone else, but this time participants engage their brains with science.
Contestants took part in a number of activities, such as creating a rainbow of light with a triangular prism, solve maths problems using matchsticks, learning how to bend light using mirrors and investigating the depth of light with just a bowl, a few coins and water.
