Teen drowns after Indigenous Games in Mtuba

The 17-year-old woman drowned in a hotel swimming pool.

A 17-year-old uThungulu teenager drowned in a hotel swimming pool during the weekend’s Department of Sport and Recreation Indigenous Games.

It is believed Nonkululeko Xaba returned to the hotel after the conclusion of the games in Mtubatuba on Saturday.

She and some team mates were at the pool where she reportedly drowned.

Paramedics responded to the emergency, however all efforts to resuscitate Xaba failed.

Xaba excelled in the game of *khokho and had been selected to represent KZN in the national indigenous games.

* Khokho: A tag sport played by teams of 12 players, of which 9 enter the field, who try to avoid being touched by members of the opposing team.
