A slithery, green visitor in eShowe

Snake catcher bags first Green Mamba caught in town.

ESHOWE snake catcher, Gareth Coleman, was surprised when he received a call that a Green Mamba was in an industrial building in eShowe.

On arriving at Ntumeni Field Service he was confronted by a 1.6metre Green Mamba in the rafters.

Using all his experience Gareth caught the snake and now has it at his home, where he will keep it for observation.

Gareth says that this is the first Green Mamba he has caught in the town.

Many people call him out for ‘Green Mambas’, only to discover that the snake is a grass snake, or some other non-poisonous specie.

He says he would rather be called than have the snake killed.

He thanked Gareth Chittenden for allowing him to take off work at the Zululand Nursery to catch the snakes, when contacted.

Not everyone loves snakes, but they are an important part of the food chain and need to be protected.
