Njabulo gets his Christmas blessing
A fantastic Christmas present for KwaMbonambi teenager, Njabulo Gumede
NJABULO Gumede’s childhood dream was to ride his own bicycle, but owing to his disadvantaged personal circumstances this was beyond his reach.
Now as a teenager, his desire became a reality when his mother’s employer, Piet Calitz of Richards Bay, surprised him with a brand new mountain bike for Christmas.
The young lad from KwaMbonambi area works at Calitz’s garden on weekends to earn extra pocket money
He normally spends his earnings on school transportation, which eases his mother’s burden.
Calitz awarded Njabulo with the special gift as an incentive and a token of appreciation for all his hard work.
‘My heart actually skipped a beat when he presented me with the bike. I started shaking and not knowing what to do because I was so overjoyed to finally have my own bicycle,’ said Njabulo.
‘I will now save money on transport while learning a new skill of mountain biking. This is so exciting because it’s something I always wanted.’
The Grade 11 pupil from Manqamu High School said he has named his new bike ‘Sibusiso’, which means ‘Blessing’.
‘This gift is a huge blessing in my life and will assist me in may ways. I want to join a club where I can learn more, and use it to exercise as well,’ he said.
Njabulo also received another bicycle which he needs to assemble for his brother.
He said he will use it to spend time and bond with his brother.
