Quiet night at maternity ward

Lower Umfolozi War Memorial Regional Hospital welcomed two healthy new year's babies

STAFF members at the Lower Umfolozi War Memorial Regional Hospital welcomed two healthy new year’s babies on Friday morning.

Nothando Khanyeza gave birth to a baby boy, Okuhle, at 12:25am, and Phindile Shanda to a baby girl, Sisanda, at 2:20am.

Despite being admitted only the day before, both mothers experienced no complications and the babies were delivered naturally.

Okuhle and Sisanda were born healthy, weighing just over 3.2 kilograms each.

‘We sometimes have up to 12 deliveries in one night, so we had staff working in teams and around the clock to ensure adequate care was provided, but we had a quiet night this year,’ said Assistant Nurse Manager, Zandile Zobolo.

To commemorate the occasion, staff members put together hampers of baby cosmetics, clothes, toys and a baby bath for the mothers.
