Fire at Kosi Bay Lodge
The temporary restaurant/bar area at Kosi Bay Lodge should be complete by the end of the week
KOSI Bay Lodge is making alternative arrangements for its restaurant and bar area after the main building was destroyed in a fire in the early hours of Monday morning.
At 1am on Monday, a security guard alerted the owner to the fire.
‘When I got there, the main building, from the ground to the thatch roof, was in flames,’ said the owner.
‘We called the fire department immediately but all that could be done was to contain the fire to ensure it did not spread to the rest of the lodge’.
Contrary to rumours, the fire was limited to the main building, comprising reception, laundry, restaurant and bar, and did not affect any of the chalets or the rest of the lodge. Electricity and water were restored by 6am and the lodge was running as usual by lunch time on Monday.
The owners are currently in the process of converting a house and cottage on the property to a restaurant and bar, to be used while reconstruction of the burnt building takes place.
‘We have a lovely outdoor area with fig trees and a swimming pool as outdoor seating for the interim restaurant. There is ample space for indoor seating in the house, while the cottage’s kitchen will be used as the restaurant kitchen and its laundry for the laundry services’.
SAPS KZN spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane confirmed that Manguzi SAPS had been notified of the fire, but said no case has as yet been opened.
