Positive year ahead for Cansa
It's full steam ahead for the Empangeni Cansa team as the new year kicks off

WITH a number of exciting plans on the horizon, Cansa Empangeni is ready for yet another positive year of saving lives.
Taking 2015 by a storm, the Cansa team hosted a number of successful events that saw thousands of Rands being raised in aid of assisting cancer patients.
Among the many events that took place, including the Day Nite Walk, Cuppa for Cansa, Cansa Relay for Life and Pink Trees for Cancer, the Cansa Shavathon reeled in a number of locals keen to make a difference.
Community members, along with members of the local bike clubs, collected more than R20 000 for the cause.
To assist with the ongoing projects, Community Mobilizer Lizelle van Zyl, along with Sister Sane who joined the team last year, recruited a number of willing volunteers.
Cansa House
Adding to the year’s successes, the Helen Ludwig Cansa House welcomed its first group of live-in patients.
This was introduced after many patients who needed treatment and assistance, lived too far away to travel to the Cansa House on a daily basis.
Apart from patients, community members are able to visit the House for PSA testings, pap smears and breast examinations.
2016
Battling through a number of challenges, including limited funds and community involvement, the Cansa team is ready for change.
With relocation currently on the cards, the team is gearing up for a possible move to Richards Bay as weekly patient visits and monthly support groups at the Richards Bay Medical Institute kick-off.
