Man sentenced for raping, impregnating niece
He raped her while she was watching television at her home in Ntambanana
A NTAMBANANA man has been sentenced to life in prison after raping his 16-year-old niece in September 2013.
According to KZN SAPS spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane, the sentencing took place on Monday at the Empangeni Regional Court.
‘The man raped her while she was watching television at her home in the same homestead where he lived,’ he said.
Early in 2014, the girls’ mother noticed she was sleeping most of the time and seemed tired.
‘She was asked about these changes in her life and that was when she told her mother that she was pregnant. The victim told her mother that her uncle impregnated her.’
A case of rape was opened at the Ntamabana Police Station and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit based in Empangeni arrested the uncle.
The identity of the rapist has been withheld as he was found guilty of a sexual offence and to protect the identity of his victim.
