THERE was great excitement at the Meerensee Equestrian Club last week with the surprise birth of a filly born at the stables.
The time of birth was around 2.30am on Friday and overjoyed owner Jamie McGregor gave all the details.
‘Mommy Nightingale Diamanté is 12 years old. She is a registered appaloosa and is used for therapy riding after her life as a broodmare.
‘The sire is NHF Last American, an imported stallion with desired bloodlines.
‘He is also a registered appaloosa and is known for his fantastic temperament.
‘Their offspring we named Surnyx – a combination of surprise (because we didn’t know she was coming) and Onyx – a black or white diamond because of the diamond on her forehead,’ said Jamie.
‘Because we weren’t expecting her, Diamanté coped with the birth all on her own like the incredible mother she is, but there was great shock and excitement among us all when we found her.
‘A foal at the stables is a very rare thing and hasn’t happened in years, so we are all over the moon.
‘She is going to be a very naughty little spoilt girl as she has stolen our hearts already.’
