Scouting for bargains
1st Richards Bay Sea Scouts community market was abuzz with shoppers
THE 1st Richards Bay Sea Scouts community market was abuzz with shoppers on Saturday, all eager to cash in on some bargain buys and help local charities raise funds for their organisations.
Held at the open space next to the Steel Bridge in Meerensee, community members had a wide variety of stalls to visit – from arts and crafts, home industries, toys and accessories, furniture and appliances, to food stalls.
According to Group Scouter Liz Wood, two new charities have joined the market.
‘uThungulu CANSA held a tea garden and shavathon to raise funds and cancer awareness, as well as BSK Plumbing and Construction who were collecting animal food for the Richards Bay SPCA.
‘We had a bumper month and were excited to receive a large consignment of fishing tackle which was donated by the late Dennis de Agostini.
‘Agostini was an avid scouter and left all the stock from his fishing shop to us. People interested in purchasing these items can contact me on 083 4413666.
‘We are in need of second hand clothing and hangers as well.
‘A special reminder to all our non-profit organisations, churches and schools that stalls are free of charge to their institutions,’ said Wood.
