City appoints contractors to install bulk services for Aquadene Housing Project
CONTRACTORS have been appointed to install bulk services for the Aquadene Housing Project.
This was announced at a public meeting at the Aquadene Community Hall on Thursday evening, where City of uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor Vera Gumbi introduced the two successful tendecompanies – Anix Trading 129cc and Thakgoga Projects – who will install water and sewage infrastructure.
The development will cater for employed people who do not qualify for a bond and 1 500 rental units and 650 low cost houses will also be built.
The application process will be open to all residents of the city, but those who are already homeowners or benefitted from a previous housing development do not qualify.
Gumbi appealled to contractors to use local labour and confirmed that about 48 people would be employed.
‘We are happy this project is moving forward and hope that the community will work with us to ensure that strikes or protests do not interrupt progress.
‘If community members have any concerns, they should raise them with the councillor ,’ she said.
