UPDATE: No arrests after fatal armed robbery

POLICE are on the hunt for the four remaining suspects involved in Monday’s failed armed robbery at the Shoprite Centre’s Nedbank in Empangeni.

A gang of at least six men stormed SBV security guards who were doing a cash drop for the ATM at around 10am.

Both security men stood their ground and a shoot-out ensued, leaving two of the robbers dead and both guards wounded, one in the foot and the other in the neck.

The remaining suspects fled, although it is believed one of them was also wounded.

SBV confirmed that one of the guards has since been released from hospital, while the other is still being kept for observation, but remains in a stable condition.

uThungulu SAPS Cluster spokesman Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose confirmed on Wednesday that no arrests have yet been made.

SBV said no cash was taken during the robbery.
