GAME rangers at the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park are geared up to enjoy five new gyms at their remote field ranger camps.

The Richards Bay Coal Terminal, Duys Engineering, Gym Africa and Leomat Construction and Plant Hire all donated various gym equipment to help the rangers build up enough strength necessary to conduct their physical tasks at the reserve and fight the war against poachers.

‘Our main aim is to provide weight training access as their patrols during the day keep their aerobic fitness up, but weight training will improve leg strength for hills when chasing poachers and upper body strength will help in long extended patrols where they carry heavy backpacks,’ said Hluhluwe Hilltop Honorary Office Vice Chair, Clive Honman.

The project is still ongoing to equip more camps with gym equipment.

To donate any old equipment, email admin@hilltophonoraryofficers.org.za or contact Sharon van Vollenhoven on 082 7279442.
