Meeting to consider Fuleni mine objections

Registered objectors of Fuleni Anthracite Project have been given opportunity to substantiate their objections

THOSE who registered as interested and affected parties (IAPs) relating to Ibutho Coal’s proposed Fuleni mine, last week received notification to attend a meeting on 7 April to substantiate objections made against Ibutho Coal’s mining right application.

The notice was issued by the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) and the meeting will be hosted by the Regional Mining, Development and Environmental Committee (RMDEC) – a statutory body of the DMR mining board represented by different departments, including Mineral Resources, Water and Sanitation, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Economic Development and the Provincial House of Traditional Leaders.

The meeting is scheduled for 10.30am in Richards Bay at the uMhlatuze Municipality.Individuals and organisations opposing the Fuleni mine have urged all objectors to attend the meeting or risk the committee making a recommendation without considering representations.

One of the environmental groups is concerned that not all IAPs received the notice as not all e-mail addresses on the list are correct.

More information on the meeting can be obtained from Lizinda Dickson at fuleniproject@gmail.com.
