Stakeholders unite to promote taxi road safety

It aims to promote road safety and train drivers on safe practices, as well as providing drivers with basic business management skills.

WITH the regional taxi awards planning already underway, the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) in Ubunye Sub Region signed a memorandum of understanding with the North Coast Group (NCG) in Empangeni on Monday.

The agreement included guidelines which will be used to ‘professionalize’ the industry and strengthen the relationship with its stakeholders.

‘The uMhlathuze Public Transport Summit last year made a resolution that taxi associations and its stakeholders must professionalize the industry.

‘The North Coast Group will source funds on behalf of the committee from various stakeholders to ensure that these safety programmes are rolled out,’ said NCG Chairperson, Lindiwe Dube.
