The minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs will follow the necessary legal procedure to proclaim the date and undertake any other requirements.
‘We urge all those who are eligible to vote register to vote and those who have not checked their names to do so on Saturday and Sunday this weekend so that together we continue to re-affirm and deepen our democracy‚’ read the statement.
The IEC has started initiatives to update and confirm voters’ details.

This includes being able to SMS your ID number to 32810 at a cost of R1 to check if additional address information is required.
You then receive an SMS back with the name of the voting station where you are currently registered.
Voters can also call an IEC Call Centre on 0800 11 8000 between 7am and 9pm or dial *120*432# or use the Voting Station finder app on www.elections.org.za.
The Department of Home Affairs will also open its offices over the weekend between 8am and 5pm to allow voters to collect their IDs or obtain temporary ID certificates to help them register to vote.
