Women in taxi industry honoured

Taxi owners were honoured during the Owners Awards in eSikhaleni on Sunday

TAXI owners were honoured for their contribution to the transport industry in a lavish award ceremony at eSikhaleni.

The event was spearheaded by the eSikhawini Taxi Association (ETA) and the North Coast Group (NCG), with the aim of recognising owners’ outstanding achievements within the industry.

The day’s highlight was honouring the contributions women make to deliver value services to their clients, and their efforts to grow and develop the business.

‘It’s a big victory for the industry as a whole, especially for us women to be recognised. I have been operating in the taxi industry for years with the aim of developing the rural area and offer employment to others,’ said award recipient and taxi owner Pat Mhlongo.

ETA Chairperson Thembinkosi Mzimela congratulated all recipients for their courage and dedication to the industry.

‘Our aim as the ETA is to promote gender equality in the mainly male dominated transport industry. We aim to encourage women to pursue careers in the field while stirring innovation and creativity,’ he said.
