IT will be about ‘girl power’ when the Girlology Workshop hits Zululand next week.
The programme aims at empowering hundreds of young women at uMfolozi TVET College in eSikhaleni and takes place on Monday and Tuesday at the Richtek campus.
Spearheaded by TV and radio personalities Claire Mawisa and Karen Burt, it will address girls’ concerns, tackling all aspects of ‘becoming a woman’ and equipping young women with potential solutions for dealing with real-life and unique challenges.
It also focuses on substance abuse, gangsterism, teenage pregnancy, domestic violence and HIV AIDS.
The Girlology also features the ‘Femfacts’ session, which educates girls about menstruation facts and personal hygiene.
Another important feature is the Guy versus Girl session, which features a male role model.
The session provides an opportunity for females to gain a rare glimpse into what guys think about girls and dating and offers clarity on other topics.
This section allows for honest interaction and encourage conversations around uncomfortable issues.
This programme has impacted the lives of more than 27 000 women in South Africa since its inception in 2011.
