Pumpking!

Frikkie grows a frickin' freaking pumpkin

HLUHLUWE farmer Frikkie de Haas has, in the space of just six months, produced a prodigious pumpkin weighing in at a massive 146kg.
The trophy specimen now stands on display at the local supermarket, where wide-eyed shoppers rub their eyes in disbelief.
However, enormous as the Atlantic Giant pumpkin is, it falls far short of the SA record of 509kg
and way off the world  best 900kg.
Frikkie’s freakish veggie was organically grown and fed with plenty of compost and water.
‘I planted the single seed in the second week of December, which is actually too late – they should be planted at the start of summer.
‘My plan is to put six seeds into the ground this year and really begin going for the record.
‘Pumpkin growing is a big craze overseas and I plan to get in on the action.’
