R19-million raised at auction to bolster Ezemvelo coffers

JUST over R19-million rand was raised at an Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife game auction held at Sibaya Casino in Durban on Wednesday.
In total, 39 white rhino were sold at an average price of R390 000, which is R35 000 up from last year’s average.
A female white rhino and her calf fetched R800 000, the highest price paid on the day.
Ezemvelo officials were surprised that all plains animals such as wildebeest and warthogs were sold, despite the gavel falling on prices much lower than the 2015 average.
Waterbuck stole the show when both on auction, on sale for the first time since 2011, sold for R30 000 apiece, up from R7 000.
