Relief for grieving family

The 84-year-old fire victim will be buried in Obanjeni this weekened

RELIEF has been provided for the grieving family from Zamokuhle Reserve in Mtunzini, after a fire ripped through their home, killing their grandfather on Saturday morning.

Umlalazi Municipality, Red Cross and community members have supplied the family with all the essentials to ensure a decent funeral for their beloved grandfather.

‘A tent, mortuary expenses and groceries and have been provided by the municipality.

‘They also helped us to get all the necessary documents such as a death certificate,’ said the mourning granddaughter, Nthabiseng Khonyane.

‘Even though the incident left us in sorrow it is comforting to know our mkhulu will have a decent burial,’ she said.
Mfaniseni Mahlangu (84) died inside his two-room house in the early hours of Saturday after a blaze started just after midnight.

It is believed the fire started when a candle left burning fell over and started a fire, causing a gas cylinder in the room to explode.

When Empangeni Fire and Rescue and the police arrive, Mahlangu had already perished.

According to Nthabiseng, a funeral service will be held at Zamokuhle sports ground on Saturday.

She said after the funeral the family will demolish what is left of her grandfather’s house.

‘It’s a constant reminder that he is gone and left us in a horrible way; that’s why the structure needs to be destroyed,’
