UPDATE: Flood of support for injured doctor
The Empangeni Homeopath is recovering at Netcare The Bay Hospital and is expected to return home this weekend

AFTER undergoing a five hour spinal fusion last week, Empangeni homeopath Dr Lance Giles is on the road to recovery following a powered paragliding accident.
The crash, which occurred in Mtunzini last week resulted in a broken femur and a compound fracture of his L5 spinal vertebrae.
Members of the community rallied to assist Giles who had crash-landed on the beach, before being taken to Netcare The Bay Hospital by ambulance.
He underwent his first surgery before being transferred to Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital in Durban for the spinal fusion and is now in a general ward undergoing rehabilitation and slowly taking his first steps.
Flood of support
‘I am truly blessed to live in such an amazing community,’ said Lance’s wife Linda who, together with their two children Sarah and Hilton, has received an abundance of support over the past week.
‘We have been totally blown away by the love and support we have received from all of you while Lance has been in hospital recovering from his accident.’
‘From those who waited on the beach providing him with shade, to his flying friends and the paramedics who transferred him to the Bay Hospital where he was looked after by their incredible staff – thank you.’
Daily visits, well wishes, meal deliveries and continued prayers have been an important reminder of the strength within the community.
Gaining strength daily, Lance should be home for the weekend in time for his daughter’s birthday.
