WARNING: Severe winds to hit KZN coast

Forecasters warn of winds up to 65km/h hitting KZN coast

ZULULANDERS should brace themselves for a cold, windy weekend.

This comes after a warning issued by the South African Weather Service regarding near gale force winds, along with warnings of a massive cold front that will hit Cape Town today and move up to KZN later this afternoon and tomorrow.

The warning encompassed the entire East Coast, predicting north-easterly winds of between 35 and 40 knots (64-74km/h) expected between East London and Maputo.

Along with the damaging winds, forecasters also highlighted high risk veld fire zones.

‘Extremely high fire conditions are expected over parts of Amajuba, uThukela, uMzinyahthi, Zululand and uMgungundlovu today and tomorrow,’ read the report.

Disruptive snowfalls are also expected over parts of Sisonke, uMgungundlovu and uThukela on Saturday and Sunday.

Snow Report SA lists a possible figure of up to 25cm of snow in the Eastern Cape.

Further online report applications suggest winds of up to 65km/h will hit the KZN coast, growing gradually from tonight and continuing tomorrow morning.
