Irate Madlankala community stage service delivery protest
Among their complaints is an accusation that Cllr John Cele shows a disregard to their problems and that he practices nepotism when hiring people for temporary municipal jobs.

THE community of Madlankala is up in arms against what they call the continued disregard of their daily problems regarding poor services.
The angry community staged a protected protest on Wednesday morning with a list of demands the municipality must answer to.
This after the community had staged several previous protests.
Among their complaints is an accusation that Cllr John Cele shows a disregard to their problems and that he practices nepotism when hiring people for temporary municipal jobs.
They also complained about the lack of youth programmes for the unemployed and opportunities, even for those with tertiary qualifications.

RDP houses misappropriation
The RDP houses allocation project which began in 2012 was also criticized. Many inhabitants say they registered for houses in 2009, but when the building process began, their allocated houses were never built.
They also accused ward committee members of misappropriation. ‘Some committee members have two houses on the same premises, yet the most needy people never received their houses.
‘There are also people who didn’t reside at Madlankala, but received houses illegally. Those people only came here as tenants,’ said one resident, requesting anonymity.
Water supplly is another issue raised. The community say they don’t understand why they suffer intermittent water availability with the Cubhu Dam on their doorstep.
Erratic power supply and poorly maintained gravel roads are some of the other problems highlighted.
