Operation Trolley Dash hits the Rail

Multiple trolleys stolen from businesses around town were seized during 'Operation Trolley Dash' in the Rail

EMPANGENI police, together with local security companies, swooped down on trolley pushers in The Rail on Friday, seizing nearly 70 trolleys stolen from businesses around town.

Visible Policing and K9 Unit members and Sector Policing Commander Captain Dup Herselman, with the help of security officers from Alpha Alert and Van Damme Security, raided the taxi rank in The Rail, loading the trolleys onto a truck and transporting them to a location where shop owners could identify them.

While trolley theft might seem insignificant, Hannes Willemse of Spar explained that one trolley set a business back around R1 000.

The costs therefore grow significantly with every trolley that has to be replaced.
Captain Herselman also confirmed that a dangerous weapon, a panga, was also confiscated.
