Quick arrests after elderly man is robbed

Six suspects were apprehended following the robbery of an elderly Richards Bay based barman

SIX men were arrested last week shortly after allegedly robbing and beating up an elderly barman on Davidson Lane, Meerensee.
Quick response by members of the Northern Region Protection Services (NRPS), Meerensee CPF members and the SAPS, resulted in the suspects being arrested and the victim’s money recovered in record time.
According to David Pretorius of NRPS, the robbery was first reported to the Meerensee Security Group at about 8.30 pm.
Pretorius and Meerensee CPF members rushed to the scene to assist.
En route, Pretorius spotted three men fitting the description of the suspects near a Meerensee garage and called for back-up.
According to the victim, the suspects carried a fuel can and was on their way to the garage with his money because their vehicle ran out of petrol.
The three were apprehended and handed over to the police who also attended to the scene quickly.
Patrollers and SAPS members thereafter searched for the car and outstanding suspects.
In the Alkantstrand vicinity three men fitting the description were found pushing a car.
They fled into the bushes with the crime busters in hot pursuit and another two were caught.
The last suspect was arrested when an eyewitness spotted him lurking near the scene.
All six were taken into custody and taken to the Richards Bay police cells.
The victim, a well-known and popular barman, was on his way home from his shift when the incident happened.
