Last call to enter waste-wise competition
Entries for the Institute of Waste Management of SA’s (IWMSA) KZN Waste Management Awards 2016 must be submitted before 30 June.

ORGANISATIONS in Zululand are urged not to miss out on the opportunity of being acknowledged for their positive environmental contributions.
Entries for the Institute of Waste Management of SA’s (IWMSA) KZN Waste Management Awards 2016 must be submitted before 30 June.
The bi-annual awards recognise businesses of all sizes for their commitment to responsible waste management practices.
‘It is open to all businesses operating in the KZN province,’ said IWMSA KZN branch’s Sue Beningfield, who is responsible for the awards portfolio.
The competition is open to general manufacturing and service industry organisations.
This includes manufacturers or service industries such retail centres, hospitality establishments, housing estates and educational institutions.
‘The purpose of the awards is to encourage organisations to think and implement efficient and effective waste management practices,’ said IWMSA President Suzan Oelofse.
‘It is also an opportunity to showcase their efforts and share best practices.’
How to enter
Businesses can to enter online at www.iwmsa.co.za and must submit:
• The organisation’s waste management or environmental policy statements
• Annual waste management report which must include volume per waste type, waste classification and name of the facility where waste was sent to for the 2014/5 and 2015/6 periods
• Projects undertaken to address waste minimisation and cost savings.
Judging will consist of a site visit and audit between August to October.
Professional members of IWMSA, KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) and the National Cleaner Production Centre of South Africa (NCPC) will conduct the judging.
