Freedom flame flares
Signifying 16 years of providing services to the people of KZN, the flame has already navigated its way through eight districts.

AFTER six days making its way through the uThungulu District, the Freedom Flame was handed over to the Ilembe District in Gingindlovu last Tuesday.
uThungulu District Mayor Thembeka Mchunu passed the flame on to Ilembe Deputy Mayor Dolly Shandu at a gala dinner held at Sunbird Guesthouse.
Signifying 16 years of providing services to the people of KZN, the flame has already navigated its way through eight districts.
In her keynote address, provincial Art, Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC Bongi Sithole-Moloi thanked uThungulu councillors for their dedicated public service and condemned those who failed to serve their people.
She further warned against the prevalent challenges of high HIV/Aids infection rates among girls between the ages of 14 and 24, which she said stands at a shocking 60%.
uThungulu District Deputy Mayor Nonhle Mkhulisi said,’We are honoured for the few days the flame is with us, as it arrived during the time of the Youth Day celebrations.’
Accepting the flame, Shandu promised to make it work for the people of Ilembe.
