Community tackles substance abuse

The eSikhaleni community has taken action against drugs and substance abuse

HUNDREDS of eSikhaleni residents marched through the streets against drug and substance abuse on Saturday.

The programme ended at Tisand Technical High School where Community Policing Forum (CPF) representatives, police officials, social workers and medical professionals addressed the youth and community on the harmful effects of drugs.

This community event was part of the International Day Against Substance and Drug Trafficking.

It was hosted by the uMhlathuze Local Drug Committee (ULDC) in a joint venture with the Department of Social Development, Department of Health, uMhlathuze Municipality, SANCA, Nicro and other non-profitable organizations, ‘Our community is affected with drugs which lead to crime.

We want to spread a strong message and offer users a hand by assisting them to rehabilitate.

‘This programme is not just to raise awareness but to help those affected as well,’ said ULDC Secretary Nokuthula Mthethwa.’
