THE Empangeni Regional Court on Friday convicted and sentenced a 36-year-old man to 13 years imprisonment for raping and assaulting his 13-year-old daughter.
According to the police report, the girl visited her father and reported the rape to her stepmother, who chose to ignore the matter.
A few days later an anonymous call was placed to the Commander of the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) regarding the incident, and a case of rape and sexual assault was opened.
The accused was then traced and arrested in the Empangeni area.
