Staff taken on robbery spree

The victims were approached by four men at the railway track in Dondota and held hostage while they conducted robberies.

TWO staff members of a Richards Bay concrete business were hijacked in Dondota and taken along on a four-hour robbery spree while their perpetrators accosted and robbed motorists on Tuesday.

Still shocked and shaken by the bizarre experience, the men told the Zululand Observer that they were approached by four men at the railway track in Dondota and held hostage while they conducted robberies.

‘The incident happened after 9am when we arrived at the location to do a site inspection before the arrival of our trucks.

‘The suspects were all armed and they drove with us on the back roads around KwaMbonambi and Heatonville, making stops to rob motorists and pedestrians.

‘When they stopped their last victim, they stole her vehicle and told us to drive off in our van and not to look back.
‘It was a strange ordeal because when we received calls on our cellphones, they they allowed us to take the calls.
‘Before releasing us they took our cellphones and cash.’
