Three die in house fire

A candle was left burning inside the house, and it is assumed it fell onto the blanket.

THREE people died in Mziki Reserve, Indumo on Monday morning after a blanket they were sleeping under caught fire from a burning candle.

It is reported a mother left a 20-year-old disabled woman with two small children in the early hours of Monday morning, and locked the house they were sleeping in while she accompanied her one daughter to a bus stop.

Apparently a candle was left burning inside the house, and it is assumed it fell onto the blanket.

The house was soon ablaze and the deceased could not escape because of the locked door.

By the time firefighters arrived, the young woman, a five-year-old girl and an 18-months-old boy were already burnt to death.

On her arrival back home, the mother collapsed when she learnt of what had happened to her children.
Indumo police opened an inquest docket.
