Ulundi police crack down on drug peddlers

Several operations yielded success when large amounts of dagga was seized.

ULUNDI police are coming down hard on drug smugglers in their area, with a number of significant arrests over the past two weeks.

According to Ulundi SAPS spokesperson Captain Nkosie Gwala, several operations yielded success when large amounts of dagga was seized.

‘We are working closely with members of the community who have been pointing out these so-called ‘drug nests’,’  she said.

‘Our members are working tirelessly to eradicate drugs, and while we are celebrating these successes we know our work is far from over.’

Drug ops results
• Nongoma, ‘White City’ – 74 slopes of dagga as well as small amount of mandrax tablets. One arrest.
• Qhibukhowe – 39kg of dagga found in 25-litre buckets. One arrest.
• Mpungamhlope – 54 dagga slopes seized. One arrest.
• Mahlabathini – Ulundi CPF received a tip-off about a ‘drug house’ and together with the SAPS conducted a raid in which 1.4kg dagga and 135 slopes were seized. Two arrests.
All the suspects have been charged with possession of an illegal substance and will appear in different courts over the next few weeks.
