What we are not happy about is the war talk and threats of election disruptions we have heard from some NFP members - Mdu Mhlongo.

THE ANC is not celebrating the fact that the NFP (National Freedom Party) won’t be contesting the municipal elections.
This was the sentiment of ANC Musa Dladla Regional Deputy Chairperson Mdu Mhlongo when addressing the media during his party’s announcement of its local mayoral candidates last week.
Mhlongo said while they stood in solidarity with the NFP, there was nothing his party could do about the matter.
‘What we are not happy about though is the war talk and threats of election disruptions we have heard from some NFP members. We don’t need such utterances in this democracy of ours,’ he said.
The ANC was quick to point out that the exclusion of the NFP poses no serious threat in their ambitions of retaining control of local municipalities, including uThungulu which they govern in coalition with the NFP.
Regional Chairperson Nomfundo Mkhulisi said they remained unshaken by the developments in the NFP, as their goal was to register a landslide victory.
‘The thought of a coalition is not on our agenda, but it is imperative to understand that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) we had with the NFP impacted all the 19 municipalities in KZN and this was signed at a provincial level. We as a region did not initiate such coalitions.’
Mkhulisi also welcomed the new members who have joined the ANC, including three NFP Councillors.
They are Cllrs Sinqobile Zungu, Bonginkosi Mkhwanazi and Bhekumuzi Thusi. Mkhulisi said the new members had joined the ANC long before the current crisis facing the NFP.
The ANC mayoral candidates:

Smanga Mgenge (uMfolozi Municipality)
Thelumoya ‘Jeke’ Zulu (uMlalazi Municipality)
