IFP slams ‘dirty tactics’ as posters are detsroyed
At least 50 posters in and around Richards Bay, eSikhaleni and Ngwelezana have been damaged.
THE Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in uThungulu has raised concerns over alleged election poster tampering.
Uthungulu District Secretary and uMhlathuze Task Team Chairman Tobias Gumede on Thursday said at least 50 posters in and around Richards Bay, eSikhaleni and Ngwelezana have been damaged.
‘There will always be these sorts of intimidation tactics,’ said Cllr Gumede.
‘At this stage we will not be opening criminal charges. We are a mature party and do not resort to desperate dirty tactics to win elections. We simply expect the opposition to respect our promotional efforts and appeal to them to stop damaging our posters. Election campaigns and materials do not come cheap.’
Cllr Gumede also confirmed that an official complaint has been handed to the uMhlathuze Municipal Manager regarding Cllr Chris Botha, who allegedly defected from the IFP and is now standing in Ward 2 for the Democratic Alliance.
The IFP and Botha are currently in a dispute over salaries paid to Botha, which the IFP feel were not due to him as he had already joined the DA.
As far as the upcoming local government elections are concerned, the IFP in uThungulu are confident 2016 will be a year of success.
‘We are resolute. We are going to take back uThungulu and uMhlathuze. We are going to make Richards Bay great again.’
