Church pays homage

'Church communities must put God first' - this was the message of the Ngwelezana Ministers Fraternal Chairman, Pastor Sipho Mlangeni.

THE challenges confronting the country would have been overcome if all church leaders were playing their roles of spreading the word of God.

Church communities must put God first.

This was the message of the Ngwelezana Ministers Fraternal Chairman, Pastor Sipho Mlangeni.

Speaking at a farewell function of the leader of the Ngwelezana Evangelical Church, Pastor Gideon Zikhali, at the uMfolozi TVET College, Pastor Mlangeni praised the retired Zikhali for being one of the church leaders who gave hope to those who had become despondent about life.

‘I wish to pay homage to this man of God. I thank him for his dedication, guidance and the outstanding leadership he has provided in our society.

Having worked with him on numerous occasions here in Ngwelezana, Pastor Zikhali distinguished himself as a true man of God, humble and dedicated to serving the people, and a peacemaker of note.

‘In times when disagreements and tensions took centre stage among us as young church leaders, Pastor Zikhali would intervene in an effort to bring calm and show us the way.

‘He was not only a teacher at school, but also to the entire church fraternity,’ Mlangeni said.

Pastor Zikhali pioneered the establishment of the Ngwelezana Evangelical Church some 15 years ago and led the church at national level as its Chairman.

He is also the former school principal of the Ngwelezana-based Thanduyise High School.

Accompanied by his family members, Zikhali was presented with a mirror and a cheque for R100 000.

The event was also graced by other church leaders from the district, and from Witbank and Swaziland.

Pastor Mlangeni appealed to the church to welcome the new leader, Pastor BD Gumbi, with open arms.
