Milestone for Sea Scout mug project
The project ensures that every sailor will have a small gift to wake up to on Christmas morning
FOR the tenth consecutive year, the 1st Richards Bay Sea Scout Group will bring a mugful of cheer to seamen far from home on Christmas Day.
With the support of the business community and the public, the scouts collect mugs and fillers in the weeks leading up to Christmas Eve, and with the assistance of the Richards Bay Fire Department deliver these to every ship in port, ensuring that every sailor will have a small gift to wake up to on Christmas morning.
‘We appeal to all our friends in the Port of Richards Bay and all over the City of uMhlathuze to contribute to this great initiative,’ said Senior Scout leader, Liz Wood.
‘With the cost of everything, including coffee mugs, having risen so steeply during the year we will have to allocate R30 per mug filled with sweets, lollipops and biscuits this year, so R300 will buy 10 mugs, filled, wrapped, a handmade card with the names of the donor company clearly indicated and personally delivered to the ships.
‘Last year we delivered in excess of 450 mugs.
‘Alternatively you may like to donate your own company mugs, filled or unfilled, wrapped or unwrapped and we will make sure they get to the ships on time.’
Contributions to this project may be made directly to 1st Richards Bay Sea Scouts, Nedbank Account No 2574157494; Branch Code 130230, indicating clearly the name of the donor and ‘Christmas Mug Project’.
In addition, mugs and goodies can also be handed in at the monthly Steel Bridge flea market on Saturday morning, 26 November and 17 December.
