Richards Bay sinkhole repair set to be completed ahead of schedule

Highway horizon looking good

THE pledge to repair the John Ross Parkway sinkhole as speedily as possible has been kept.

With at least two weeks being sliced off the original 10-week prediction, the city’s major commuter route could be reopened to full traffic flow by the end of this month.

‘Contractors and machinery are working non-stop and there is daily visible progress,’ said regional Department of Transport spokesperson, Kwanele Ncalane.

‘The MEC has urged swift headway and this has been heeded; we are extremely satisfied and positive of an early finish.

‘A new pipe plus additional concrete culvert structures will allow a free flow of water and prevent the incident from recurring.’
