Remaining Empangeni prison escapee nabbed in Mtuba

Super cop effort nabs fifth and final escapee

THE fifth and final fugitive who escaped from the Empangeni Correctional Centre last month was rearrested at the weekend.

According to King Cetshwayo SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, felon Siyabonga Mshana Khumalo (36) was arrested on Saturday morning after Empangeni Task Team members received information he was selling scrap metal in Mtuba.

Police followed up the lead and rearrested Khumalo, who was awaiting trial for murder before he escaped.
