Mob kills man in Empangeni street

The man's severely beaten body was found at the roadside

A 21-year-old man was killed by an angry mob in Empangeni on Tuesday afternoon.

The motive for the attack is not known at this stage.

His severely beaten body was found lying next to the side of the road in Weightman Drive between the Empangeni fire station and Boxer.

According to the police, they received information of the attack at about 3pm and, by the time they arrived at the scene, the victim was already dead.

It is alleged he had been stoned and beaten with sticks and other blunt objects.

A case of murder has been opened and no arrests have yet been made.

‘The deceased was identified by his next of kin as Siyabonga Mthombeni of the Emadukwini area outside eSkhaleni,’ said King Cetshwayo Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose.

Anyone with information is urged to report it to the police or phone the emergency number 10111.
