BREAKING: 13 die in Empangeni church collapse

The church building collapsed during the Passover service

MORE than a dozen congregants of a Pentecostal church in Dlangubo on the outskirts of Empangeni were tragically killed last night (Thursday) when their church building collapsed.

Scores more were injured in the incident which is thought to have been the result of last night’s heavy rains.

Empangeni Search and Rescue dive unit, and K9 Search and Rescue attended to the scene, as did the local fire department.

The 13 who lost their lives were pulled from the rubble by the search teams and declared deceased on scene.

A further 29 patients were treated on scene and transported to Ngwelezana Hospital for further treatment.

K9 Troy searched the rubble in case of more survivors or victims to ensure none was left behind.
