Voters urged to register for ward by-elections
In KZN the by-election will take place in Ward 4 in Mtubatuba on 24 July owing to the resignation of the councillor.
ELIGIBLE voters have been urged to register this weekend to vote in six municipal ward by-elections taking place in KZN, Gauteng and Western Cape next month.
In KZN the by-election will take place in Ward 4 in Mtubatuba on 24 July owing to the resignation of the councillor.
Vezobala High School, Khiphinkunzi Primary School and Arrie Viviers Gemeenskapsaal voting stations in Mtubatuba will be opened this Saturday and Sunday at 8 am to 5 pm to allow voters to register and for current voters to check their registration details.
‘Voters should take with them either a green bar-coded ID book, a smartcard ID or a valid Temporary ID Certificate.
‘They will also need to complete their physical home address on registration or provide sufficient particularities of their place of residence. Documented proof of address (e.g. a municipal account) is not required
‘Voters may also check and update their details at their local (municipal) Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) office weekdays during office hours,’ the IEC said.
The commission also warned voters that it is a criminal offence to register and vote in a ward in which they are not ordinarily resident.
In Gauteng, the by-elections will take place in Ward 54, Ward 83, Ward 09 and Ward 12 in City of Johannesburg Municipality. In the Western Cape, elections will be in Ward 2 in Swellendam Municipality.
