His body was found buried in a shallow grave near bushes in the Skhemelele area in Manguzi.

A cousin of the deceased, Mduduzi Gumede, said it is believed that Vusi was kidnapped by his attacker while on his way to meet an unknown caller who had promised him a job.

uMkhanyakude Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, said a missing person’s docket was opened for investigation by the Manguzi SAPS on Monday, 25 May.

‘During the investigation, police learnt that Vusi had an altercation with the suspect,’ said Captain Mdletshe.

‘The suspect was tracked down and interrogated, during which time he admitted that he had killed Vusi and buried his body in the forest at Skhemelele in the Maviyo area.

‘Upon further interrogation, the cellphone of the deceased was also found in the suspect’s possession.

He then led the police to the exact location where the victim was buried, and the body was found in a state of semi-decomposition.

The body was retrieved and taken to Manguzi state mortuary where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.’

Mdletshe added that they had opened a murder docket and the suspect would remain in police custody while the investigation continued.
