THE man she called ‘mkhulu’ violated her trust in the worst possible way.

Mtubatuba Regional Court sentenced a 68-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his six-year-old neighbour in March 2025 in eBaswazini.

Evidence presented in court showed the girl was returning home from school when the accused grabbed her by the hand and told her to come to his home.

When she questioned why, he covered her mouth and forcibly took her to his home, where he raped her.

Despite being threatened if she reported the incident, the girl did just that, informing her mother who reported the assault to the police.

After a medical examination and treatment, the girl identified the accused who was arrested.

State Prosecutor Phumlani Khoza led the evidence of three witnesses: the victim; her mother, and the medical doctor who examined the child.

In addition to the life sentence, the court declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that he be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders and the National Child Protection Register.

NPA regional spokesperson of the KZN Division, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, said, “The accused abused a position of trust and exploited the vulnerability of a young child. Children are among the most vulnerable members of society and deserve the highest level of protection from all forms of abuse, violence, and exploitation.”
