Bogus cops hijack workers near Richards Bay
The victims were forced to drive with the criminals for three hours before eventually being dropped off
A ROUTINE drop-off of employees last Wednesday night turned into a nightmare for two company staff members when they were pulled over near the eNseleni off-ramp on the N2 by criminals posing as police officers.
They had been working late and after the drop-off, left eNseleni en route back to Empangeni when four men in police uniforms in a white van with flashing blue lights signalled them to stop.

One of the armed men got into the driver’s seat while the others kept the two occupants under guard.
They were forced to drive with the criminals from 8.30pm to 11.30pm before they were eventually dropped off in Heatonville.
Unharmed, they managed to get to safety and contact their employer to notify him of the hijacking.
The vehicle’s tracker system was disconnected and the vehicle could not be located.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident last Tuesday, King Cetshwayo Task Team members were conducting operations on the R66 highway and arrested a wanted 24-year-old suspect for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and a police uniform.
According to a police statement, a minibus taxi with passengers was stopped and searched on the R66 highway, during which the illegal items were discovered.
An investigation is underway to determine how the suspect obtained the police uniform, while the firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if it was used in the commission of any crime.
