The heavens are not in lockdown

Star gazing sessions are held on Zoom every Tuesday

PROVIDING exciting and informative astronomy talks weekly via an online meeting platform, University of Zululand’s Science Centre Director, Dr Derek Fish’s star-talk show, ‘Stars on Zoom’, has gained a loyal following.

Fish has spent the last three decades making science accessible to people – and especially children – all over the world and says while so much has been restricted by the Covid-19 lockdown, the heavens have not been affected.

‘The stars and planets are still out in all their glory and it is a great time to cast our gaze upwards.

‘These talks started early in May and there have been 11 so far, covering super stars, solstices, eclipses, astrology and much more,’ Fish says.

The sessions are held every Tuesday at 5.30pm on Zoom and are suitable for children of all ages, while parents will also find it interesting.

To keep updated on the talks and access exciting pictures and resources, amateur astronomers across all age groups can access the ‘Stars on Zoom’ Facebook page.
