Spring tide warning
Beachgoers and coastal hikers are urged to exercise caution owing to the full moon Spring tide phase
THE National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has warned locals to take extra caution along the coastline for the week ahead. This comes as the full moon Spring tide phase, which peaks on Sunday (5 July), will bring higher than normal Spring high tides and lower than normal Spring low tides.
These conditions are expected to persist towards the end of the week.

NSRI CEO Dr Cleeve Robertson said the concern was for smaller vessels at sea navigating through the conditions, as well as for beachgoers and coastal hikers, who may be caught off-guard by the large waves at Spring high tide that could potentially sweep them off the rocks along the shoreline.
‘An appeal goes out to boaters, paddlers, beachgoers, surfers, coastal hikers, anglers and the public to be cautious around the coastline and to follow SA Weather Service (SAWS) forecasts,’ added Dr. Robertson.
